Women have good chances to make careers in Racing, they can attract Sponsors well. If you go to lower class Racing events, like F2000, you see how much attention girls in Racing get, making Interviews on the Starting Grid even when they start from the back of field while there isnt as much attention to the guy on Pole. Girls in Racing really raises attentions and that helps alot when searching for Sponsors and Rides.

The reason why there havent been women Racing in F1 for a long time, and are a rare appearance in other Racing Series is due to women, generally speaking are not as interested in Racing as they are in other Sports. Alot of Woman go play Tennis, Handball, swimming, volleyball, track and field etc., for alot of Women there just isnt as much interest in Racing as there is into other Sports.

Aswell, there are few black people doing Motorsports, not because they would lack the skill or wouldnt get attention by the Media (=Sponsors), there just seems to be more interest in seeking a career in Basketball, Football, or other types of Sports. Lewis is a exception, but could become an idol for a lot of young black kids to seek a career in Racing.

If I would choose one track for LFS, it would be SPA.

But the Nordschleife would be second in my book, those who say you cant have close Racing at the Ring must have never played Grand Prix Legends, or simply lack the skill to do it.

I saw that Race on TV Live and that was one very very horrible thing to see all of a sudden, unbelievably Franchitti walked away from that. Dan Wheldon was high there already and went even higher before they touch, but then things happen so quickly at 360 km/h.

Quote from jtw62074 :And if you do, it's remarkably accurate. A really good piece of hardware. I only wish my Z800 was half as good at head tracking.

What is your opinion on the z800 for Gaming or watching a Movie?

Good Race by Norbi today in the Porsche Super Cup

But annoying to hear the commentators of the Race not seperating between Sim Racing and "playing on the Playstation"

I use the TrackIR, even with triplehead2go. There are alot of options and profiles you can use when setting it up. You dont have to look to the back or have more view-turning than you would want to. After some adjustments it can feel very natural to be able to look freely around and the greater immersion makes fun, especially in close Racing and when approaching and driving threw hairpins.

There are people who would never use there Race or Flight Sim without it anymore, and there are others who just dont feel good when using it.
It costs 180 $ or 130 € and there is a 30 day free trial in which you can return it if you dont like it, but only if you buy it directly from naturalpoint, which I also did.

Quote from FOGlegsy :Hi,
Im thinking of getting a triple head go unit and a couple of new monitors to run on my system, but before i go and make the purchase i would like to know if my current system would cope running 3 monitors,

AMD 4000+ 64 single core
1GB of pc 3200 ram
Gainward 7800GS 512mb golden sample AGP

I dont suppose u need more info than that, currently i get 95+ fps on low load down to 40fps at the back of the grid aa and af set to the highest settings in CP,

What sort of FPS loss should i expect? id like to keep my aa and af at full as it looks sooo sublime,

I use TH2GO with

AMD 4000+ 64 single core
2 GB
GeForce 7600 GS

In LFS: 3840 x 1024 no AA no AF

In NR2003: 3840 x 1024, 2 AA, 2 AF

If you look at other Racing Simulations, the 'forced cockpit view option' is mostly used only in certain leagues, the majority of Public Servers for Pick up Races keep this Option off.
I dont see any reason why it should be different in LFS.

Suggestions for different price ranges:

About 70 USD - Logitech Driving Force Pro

About 360 USD - Logitech G25

About USD 1020 - Thomas Super Wheel Formula (I got that one, its really awesome, and the quality justifies the price)

For about 3000 USD - Virtual Performance Parts

Quote from choxaway :Hi George,
I agree with your point concerning restricted views - it's also a bit like looking forward through a zoom lens on a camera whereby the foreshortened image totally eliminates a true sense of speed, whereas the same camera at its wide angle setting will dramatically increase that feeling of speed - something I notice a lot when viewing TV footage of a race from the camera mounted on the driver's helmet. In order to take in a wider FOV, the tiny camera's set at quite a wide angle and the car appears to travel much faster as a result.

Thats right.

Quote from choxaway : I found that altering my FOV to about 60 gave me a more natural - or should I say equivalent to a real - driving view forward and sense of speed but as you say, it's like wearing blinkers and the speed sensation is thus reduced. It's only since setting up my TIRPro enabling me to look about me as I would in reality, thus removing the blinkers but still in the correct driving position in the car, that I found a much happier state of affairs where I can judge my speeds and anticipate corners in a more realistic manner. With a virtual driver in place, when I look around I can see 'my' shoulders where they should be and I'm not located too far forward or back in the virtual seat. The huge advantage of TIR3 is that I can quickly glance round, sit higher or crouch down a bit, lean left or right slightly as though anticipating centrifugal force, albeit not actually there, in much the same way as if driving a real car.

I also got the TIR3. Its a new dimension, I would recommend it to any Sim Racer or Flight Simmer.

Quote from choxaway : I wish I had one of those rumble seats (someone raving about these in the flight sim forums) whereby the force feedback that I enjoy with my M/Soft FFB2 wheel and pedals is similarly transmitted to the seat and gives the flyer (or in this case driver) feedback from the virtual wheels. Maybe the vibration coming back from the road surface might impart some sense of weight to the cars and sideways momentum when turning hence the old 'flying by the seat of your pants' expression.

There is a seat out there that Simulates vibrations of the road surface, engine vibration, Grip, and so on. Its from a small company in the US, iVibe, the seat has 6 strong vibration motors who simulate all kind of things taken out of the Game engine, the effects are very customizeable and those who got it love it. I have read alot about it and I'm in the process of ordering one now, I also know somebody in my league who wouldnt Race without it anymore. I cant await to get it. Unfortunately it doesnt support LFS in a "Live" Mode, meaning it doesnt take the effects out of the Game engine but solely from the Sound, which is still good but not as good as the proper way of taking the vibrations out of the Physic engine.

As you liked Papyrus work in the past perhaps you do drive GPL and/or NR2003, because in these Sims the vibration is "Live".

Quote from choxaway : One problem when approaching corners is that when braking there's no feeling of weight beneath your body or being forced sideways by gravity etc, which may well be why I initially had so much difficulty feeling my way around the track. I still think the Caterham-types appear underweight and skittish, when I would have thought their body weight or mass would, in conjunction with their low height, wide tracking and fat wheels, give them more grip on the bends - particularly being dry weather.
Likewise, come out of a bend too fast and when the back starts to go, I would normally counter this with a touch of opposite steer but do that in these cars and they take on a life of their own swinging back and forth until a total spin results. I seriously believe decent tyres on such fat wheels wouldn't react so violently but it's only my impression, never having raced the real thing.

Big part besides of the sense of speed is how the car is setted up. Setups in LFS are often very loose compared to normal Road cars. I'm just wondering what type of wheel and pedals are you using? There are big differences in Pedals, there are plastic ones which measure the amount of braking applied by the way the pedal traveled, or more expensive pedals that feel alot better and work by the amount of force applied to it.

Quote from choxaway : As to your first point, having only just bought the game, I had no idea I could keep the playbacks and access them other than immediately after a race, how long they remain recorded and stored - and where to gain access to them again another day.

You can choose to either save every Replay automatically in the Games Option Menu or do it manually by clicking "r", "1", or "s" during the Game (not sure right now which one of these

I have driven alot of Road Cars and Formula cars on and over the limit and I do think the amount of Grip in LFS is quite good.

What has been mentioned before is quite true, that with the common field of view most are using, the sense of speed is not coming across. If you drive in your car and take both hands to cover what you see at the sides, and only look at a small portion of the view in front, like you do in LFS, you get the impression that your going much slower than you do.
That leads to corners beeing taken to fast and the impression that the car has to low Grip.

Choxaway, an included Replay in your opening Post would have been nice, you could take the car on a lap at the limit, then post the Replay and say at which corners you would expect the car to have more Grip. Because then, when reviewing and analysing the drive one can take a better look at the speeds and the amount of steering.
I have driven a Lotus Caterham the type of car you mentioned in your opening Post, I would consider the amount of Grip in the LX4 pretty accurate, not perfect by any means but not very far off.

This is what I posted in another Forum on 2nd April:

[FONT=Verdana, Arial][SIZE=2]During last Sundays NASCAR Race in Martinsville some very interesting comments were made from one of the German NASCAR commentators about Craig Pollock.

I will have to quote losely, because I didnt find his comments anywhere on the net, and just quote from memory of what I heard he said when he was beeing asked how it looks about Villeneuve returning back to Racing, in NASCAR.

If any German Forum Members are here who also watched the NASCAR Race, feel free to correct me if I got anything wrong or forgot something:

Craig Pollock has tried to get Villeneuve a Cockpit in NASCAR, he also contacted my Team from the past, and what he wanted was a contract for Villeneuve, a 20 Million Dollars contract. He didnt got a agreement and later came back and said Villeneuve would also race for half of that money.

We know that he asked at different Teams for a car, after some time he came back and said Villeneuve would race for free, if we would give him a car. In NASCAR, and Motorsports that is not the way to make deals, you shouldnt try to sell your driver for alot of money, come back and only wanting half of it, to be coming back later again to be ready to Race for free.

Some time later he got one offer from Roush Racing, they would provide him a car and Team around it, but Villeneuve would have to pay for all of it.

Craig Pollock was very clumsy trieng to find a place for Villeneuve in NASCAR.

Please note, that this is losely what I remember the German commentator said during the Race when he was asked about Villeneuve, I have no way to prove if anything of what he said is true, or if I remember completetly correctly what he said, but it was along the lines of what is written above. Thought some of you people would also find that interesting.

The commentators name is Klaus Graf, and considered an expert in NASCAR in Europe, he has also Raced in the NASCAR Cup Series and still has contact with his Team at Races.

In 1993 he was German and Austrian Formel Ford Champion, in 1997 he was third in the Porsche Carrera Cup and best Rookie of all times.
In 2005 he Raced at Rocketsports Racing in the Trans Am Series and was first German to win the Series. He has Raced in NASCAR for BAM-Racing in 2005.

Stayed awake all night to see that Race, and it was worth it, what an awesome Race! The IRL Race some hours before was a joke compared to it.

NASCAR should have more Road Races in there calender

Couldnt have said it better Quint999.

If LFS would have the same amount of real cars and real tracks as rFactor has, it would blow alot of Sims away in terms of popularity including rFactor.

Why some LFS Fans want to have fantasy material in what is supposed to be a serious Sim is totally incomprehensibly to me. Would they not like to have a Spa, a Suzuka or a Nürburgring? Would they not like to have cars like the F1 or the F2000 car.
Fantasy cars and tracks can be fun, but recreations of real Tracks and cars are even more fun.

The way LFS is developed it seems were going to see that only when Modding is supported after S3.

It's hard for anyone who isnt used to Sims or Racing Games to just sit down and drive like they do in any real car.
The Speed, the weight transfer, the braking, everything can only be seen and heard, but not felt. If you drive in a real car you feel where the car wants to go, you feel how much the G-forces push you to a side, in a Sim you have to learn to only rely on seeing and hearing. You have to get used to it. That can take hours even for real Racing drivers who are tryieng Sim Racing.

What Wheel do you have and how is it configured? What Track, car and Setup?

Quote from stevewhite :I did the very oposite... I sold it all!!! I figured the one thing that would kick lfs's ass would be a real car, so i went for it, i have yet to get a car though... Maybe after a few cheques. Everyone is spending all of this moneys on their computer, but you can have the real thing!!! People have 3 22" lcd monitros set up with a th2go!!!! Thats probably 2000 dollars woth of monitor exuipment, not to mention the 500 dollar video card needed to run it all! Then the g25, and the cockpit, and all the other computer parts! Get a real car, the graphics are great, the ffb is amazing, and the sounds are even better! And for all the ricers, yes, you can get all the crappy neon, fake goodscoops, giant spoilers, and hideous paint/graphics you want!!!

LOL your numbers are far off and whats wrong with having a Hobby like this. Alot of people spend alot of money on there Hobbies and can still afford a real car
